From Knighton to Brompton Bridge

Today you start in Knighton, which in Welsh, 'Tref y Clawdd' means 'town on the Dyke'. This is the only town which shows pronounced stretches of the Dyke within its city borders. But don't hesitate too long, you will need your time today:

Yesterday the authors of our guides viewed the section to Knighton as the loveliest leg of the Path - today´s stretch is described as the "toughest part of the whole route". But this is compensated by some very nice views and the ascents and descents never lead you on or off more than 1,400 feet (425 meters) above sea level, so it won´t be too tough going.

What makes the going a bit hard is that the grain of the country is east-west so you follow a long procession of short steep climbs and descents. However, the trail most of the time goes through the Shropshire Hills, another area of outstanding natural beauty.
