From Hay-on-Wye to Kington

Hay-on-Wye, also apart from the following a beautiful medieval town worth an inner city stroll or two, has achieved some fame as the world´s 'capital' of the second hand book trade since Richard Booth started the first of a long line of bookshops and a literary festival in 1988. Be sure not to miss this special atmosphere while you are here (but try not to get tempted to overload your rucksack with the written riches you will find).

It is fitting that today´s section makes a very pleasant day´s walk from the Valley Wye into the hills of Radnorshire on the border of Herefordshire. The remnants of Offa´s Dyke are fragmentary but more and more frequent. Descriptions of optional circular walks to Clyro and Hergest Ridge assure that for those feet, who find today´s 15 miles too short a walk, will find exciting additional miles to cover.
