From Patterdale to Burnbanks

Patterdale, named after St. Patrick who is supposed to have been on evangelical mission here in the fifth century, is a most charming village located on the southern end of Ullswater. The stage to Burnbanks is marked by the great mass of the High Street range that stands between the town and Burnbanks at the end of Haweswater Reservoir. The way up is demanding on the first half of this day but relaxing on the second half when you walk most of the time along the shore of Haweswater Reservoir to Burnbanks or perhaps even until you reach Shap as recommended by Terry Marsh. For the first time you will experience the change of the landscape between the Lakeland you leave and the Yorkshire Dales ahead.
