From Königshütte to Altenbrak

Former and present mine areas
This part of the route offers many attractions to tourists both geological and those connected with the history of mines. The day begins with a superb view from Königsburg castle. The Harz Mountains can now be seen closer and looming in the distance is the Brocken range.
As Hexenstieg follows Bode bed, this stream makes its way along deep shadowy valleys. As you travel the route to Tiefenbachtal you can take a short nature trail up a tall cliff from which a wide view of Rübeland and Brocken can be admired.
Very close to this path are the Rüberlander Tropfsteinhöhlen limestone caves which are well worth seeing if you have the time.
Königshütte - Hasselfelde - Altenbrak

Along Köhlerpfad
Having climbed Königsburg we leave the course of Bode to reach the Rappbodetalsperre dam, the "Sautälchen” reserve until we reach Hasselvorsperre.
The walk now takes us across the Mittelharz plateau, through Hasselfelde and on to Köhlerpfad the recently created charcoal burner's path. Here you can stop to visit the the museum to discover how local charcoal was produced.
Further on Hexenstieg passes natural broad-leaved woods and leads along a romantic path to Schöneburg. At the end of the day you will be treated to a panoramic view of Altenbrak and Bode valley.
