From Buntenbock to Torfhaus

Today's stage allows us to visit Oberharzer Wasserregal. This is a unique system of ponds, ditches and water drifts built in 1530 for the needs of Harz mining industry and further developed through to 1866.

This part of the Hexenstieg walk leads mainly along causeways and makes the second stage of the Hexenstieg route extremely interesting from both historical and visual point of view.

Oberharzer Wasserregal

The whole system of the Oberharzer Wasserregal canals begins with many ponds passing the sources of mountain streams and leads along some very narrow paths right to Polsterberg where the Hartz Mountains National Park begins. More experienced hikers can also enjoy "Steile Wand” i.e. "rough wall”: leading through rocky surroundings.
