From Königswinter to Niederdollendorf

Another rather short stage over the Siebengebirge hills starts at Schloss Drachenburg palace. The trail passes the Geisberg hill after the first climb of the day, and there is a splendid view from the pavilion on the hilltop. After the crossing of a valley, the Rheinsteig leads steeply uphill again to the well-known Petersberg hill.

Viewing points

Statesmen from all over the world have stayed at the former visitor's house of the Federal Republic of Germany, now serving as a hotel, political history had been made here. In the valley again, the way passes the park of the Heisterbach cloister, which is dominated by the striking and much painted ruins of the choir of the former cloister church.

Passing the abbey ruins

The route reaches Oberdollendorf and finally leads downhill to Niederdollendorf. Both are traditional wine grower's villages and the most northern ones of the Mittelrhein wine-growing district.
