From Unkel to Bad Honnef
This stage takes you out of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, and reaches the hills of the Siebengebirge, located in the most southern part of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The hilltops of the Siebengebirge nature reserve are of volcanic origin, and some of the most famous ones will be passed during the next stages.
The Leyberg Hill
The course of the Rheinsteig trail is now a little further away from the Rhine, increasingly running along broader forest ways. Short, but varied, the stage from Unkel to Bad Honnef leads you along vineyards, fields, and through woodland. The walk starts with a first climb to Bruchhausen, and, again, the remains of former mining activity in the area can be found along the way.
On the way to the Seven Mountains - Siebengebirge
After crossing the Breitbach valley, the way ascends to the highest hills of this stage, Auge Gottes ("God's Eye”) and Leyberg, with brilliant views of the Siebengebirge and the Rhine Valley. A last downhill passage passes through a small valley, taking you to Bad Honnef, located at the bank of the Rhine.
