From Rengsdorf to Leutesdorf

An attractive and varied stage leads back from the forested hills of the Westerwald to the banks of the Rhine. The route crosses a rather hilly area and lots of idyllic valleys, e.g. the Laubach valley with nice waterfalls. The Römergraben, near Rengsdorf, is a mighty medieval defence wall.

Forests, meadows, viewing points

The way is mostly through the forest, but there are stretches through the open country and through nice orchards as well, and there are numerous spots with distant views of the Rhine Valley or of the narrow valley of the river Wied. The valley is in the location of Altwied and its medieval castle ruins.

Your way down

Although the final descent to the Rhine is partly a little difficult, it provides you with brilliant views of the river as you are getting closer and closer. At the Hüllenberger Stolperstein you can see Andernach on the left bank of the Rhine, before a small path leads you steeply downhill to the nice wine grower's village of Leutesdorf.
