From Lorch to Kaub

The Rheinsteig trail leaves the state of Hesse and the Rheingau region, taking you to the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. After the start at Lorch the way ascends again, passing through wooded areas and vineyards.

Viewing Point Wirbellay

During the entire stage, the course of the walk is close to the Rhine, often leading directly along the slope of the Rhine gorge, and there are lots of great views of the places and the castles along the riverside, e.g. of Bacharach and Burg Stahleck castle at the Wirbellay viewpoint. Before the end of the stage at Kaub, the trail takes a swerve to the Volkenbach valley.

Via narrow passes to Lorch

The views go deep down from the hills to the Rhine Valley, where the fortified castle of Pfalzgrafenstein lies scenically located on a small island in the middle of the river. Just above Kaub, the trail passes another nice, medieval castle, Burg Gutenfels. Afterwards it ends with a final, steep descent to the Rhine.
