From Rüdesheim to Lorch

You return from Rüdesheim's famous Drosselgasse to the Niederwald monument. This is followed by a passage with lots of brilliant views of the narrow Rhine Valley over to Bingen, where the river Nahe flows into the Rhine. A local nobleman of the 18th century gave artistic form to this part of the Rhine Valley's landscape, and one can find several results of his creativity along the way: There is an exceptionally great view at the Rossel observation tower.

Forrest, Vineyards, Rocks

And a walk through the artificial tunnel passage of the Zauberhöhle (magic cave) is quite an unusual experience. After a steep descent to Assmannshausen, which is located by the banks of the river, the trail at once takes you uphill again. Besides passages through woods and vineyards, now repeatedly narrow and rocky paths lead you along the slopes of the Rhine Valley.

Rhine Valley view

The way crosses several small valleys before you can enjoy another classic view of the Rhine at the Drei-Burgen-Blick viewpoint ("Three Castles View”). The stage finishes with another steep descent down to Lorch, where one long row of houses lines up along the bank of the Rhine for more than three kilometres.
