From Schlangenbad to the monastery Eberbach

The trail leaves Schlangenbad, slowly taking you back to the Rhine through a lot of forest and occasionally overlooking the river's valley from the distance. Following the course of a nice brook, the way passes more forest, orchards and, to an increasing degree, the vineyards of the Rheingau.

Pass the ruins ...

There is a splendid view of the Rhine Valley near the ruins of Scharfenstein castle before you come to Kiedrich. The medieval village is a real gem with beautiful half-timbered houses. At Kiedrich you will also find Germany's oldest playable organ. The way ascends once more, passing the Honigberg hill, before the stage ends at the famous monastery of Kloster Eberbach. In 1985 the impressive medieval cloister was the location for the film "The Name of the Rose".

It is furthermore a venue for connoisseurs of wine where you can look back at the centuries-old tradition of wine growing.
