From Wiesbaden to Schlangenbad

The Baroque palace of Schloss Biebrich, which is located right by the banks of the river, is an idyllic backdrop for the start of your walk along the Rhine Valley. Starting at the palace grounds, the Rheinsteig follows the river for a while and passes the harbour of Schierstein.

Through vine yards to Frauenstein

The walk takes you away from the Rhine for the rest of the day, quickly leaving the motorway and residential areas of Wiesbaden behind and ascending to the hills of the Rheingau. It passes the restored keep of a medieval castle at the wine grower's village of Frauenstein, where there are good views of the Rhine Valley at the Goethestein viewpoint.

On narrow paths to Schlangenbad

On narrow paths through the forest, the way takes you further uphill, and after passing the nice Erlenbach valley, it reaches the mighty rock formation of the Grauer Stein, which is a popular area for climbers. Schlangenbad, hidden in a narrow valley, is a traditional spa, famous for its thermal springs.
