From Grenzwiese to Hörschel
Having finished this first ascent to the Großer Inselberg, you will now appreciate the advantage of walking The Rennssteig from south to north - as described here!
The route from here to Hörschel goes gently downhill so you will make good progress. As you start, the route takes you along broad, woodland tracks that occassionally open out into clearings. However, from Clausenburg on (about 1.5 hours before you reach Hörschel), the route is led through open country with some splendid views of the River Werra valley.
