Your walking path: Home  > Germany  > Franconia  > Thalmässin / Weißenberg

From Thalmässing to Weißenburg

Today's varied leg continues you along the edge of the Franconian Alb. From Thalmässing a steep climb takes you uphill to a terrace at the slope of the Alb which is partly very wet. The path follows this terrace for a while and passes a mighty earth bank which presumably dates from the time of Celtic settlement in the region. Later the path returns to the Alb's open plateau.

Always close to the edge of the plateau the Franconia Way passes the small villages of Bergen and Geyern and on an attractive and varied route it ascends to the Rohberg which is located above the town of Weißenburg. There are splendid views of the town as you descend down to the valley. The historic Weißenburg invites you to discover its cultural heritage from many different eras.

The Roman settlement of Biriciana marks the beginning of the town's long history and therefore a visit at the local Roman Museum is especially advised.
