Your walking path: Home  > Germany  > Franconia  > Muggendorf / Pottenstein

From Muggendorf to Pottenstein

This leg's character is similar to the one of the previous day. You discover the beauty of Franconian Switzerland on an especially scenic and hilly route passing bizarre rock formations and offering you splendid views. After the start at Muggendorf there will be additional views of the Wiesent valley. This is followed by a very unusual and spectacular passage: The way leads you through the tunnel-like passageway of the Oswaldshöhle cave.

After a further climb the path returns to the Wiesent valley where the Franconia Way follows the course of the small river for a while along a very nice stretch. Franconian Switzerland's mighty dolomite rocks are the dominant features of the last part of this stage.

The path takes you uphill again to Gößweinstein where it passes a baroque pilgrimage basilika. Shortly after that Tüchersfeld is scenically nestling among Franconian rocks. This fantastic day of walking finally ends at Pottenstein which is not less worth seeing. You can find lots of old half-timbered houses as well as the medieval Pottenstein castle.
