Untereichenstein - Schwarzenbach am Wald

Two great long-distance paths face each other across the banks of the river Saale. Thuringia's famous Rennsteig starts at Blankenstein. On the other side of the river you will find the start of the newly launched Franconia Way at Untereichenstein.

The Franconia Way's varied first stage leads you through the northern part of the Franconian Forest and there are terrific views of the Höllental valley and at the König David viewpoint. You follow a winding path downhill for more than 4 km along the way taking you through the narrow valley with its overgrown and steep sided slopes. It is doubtlessly the absolute highlight of this stage.

This section is followed by a longer path through the forest which avoids the town of Naila. This way passes the small village of Marlesreuth which is located on the Franconian Forest's heights. After a final descent you reach Schwarzenbach.
