From Treuchtlingen to Dollnstein

This stage is long and quite exhausting but full of attractions. You will enjoy the many magnificent views along the course of Altmühl. This walk leads partly along the hills and through forests and wilderness covered with junipers. Then it goes steeply downhill to historical towns in the river valley. During this and the next stage you will encounter Jurassic limestone in various shapes - massive rock formations, such as for example 'Twelve Apostles' near Solnhofen, commercial exploitation of limestone in quarries, fossil excavations as well as interesting expositions in many places immediately alongside the road.
